To any
enquiry as to his
occupation, Richard invariably replies "Sheep
Farmer". A politics graduate from Edinburgh University, he served for
five years in the Queen's Own Highlanders before returning to Orkney.
He has stood three times for Parliament, as a Conservative in Orkney
& Shetland (1987), Caithness, Sutherland &Easter Ross
(1999),
and Inverness East, Nairn & Lochaber (2001). He served on the
Orkney Health Board from 2001 to 2005, chairing Health & Safety
and
Audit Committees. He is currently Chairman of Hammars Hill Energy Ltd,
an independent wind energy developer. - "North Wind" may be said to
have been his "brainchild". "What we have here is a team of four first
class professionals in Engineering, Law, Finance, and Procurement.
Individually, each has an outstanding record of achievement; together
they have an unparalleled experience of economic development in the
Highlands & Islands. My advice would be:- Put them to work.
