Jim
Wallace has recently stood down from a Parliamentary career which
spanned twenty four years. From 1983 to 2001, he was MP for Orkney
& Shetland, and from 1999 to 2007, he represented Orkney in the
Scottish Parliament. He has held a range of party spokesmanships,
including energy, employment and small businesses. Upon the
establishment of the Scottish Parliament, he became Deputy First
Minister in the coalition government, a post he held until he stood
down as a Minister in 2005. He was Justice Minister between 1999 and
2003, and subsequently, he became Minister for Enterprise &
Lifelong Learning. As Enterprise Minister, Jim's portfolio
responsibilities included energy matters, Highlands & Islands
Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise. He also chaired the Forum for
Renewable Energy Developments in Scotland (FREDS). Jim was previously
an advocate at the Scottish Bar. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1997
and a Privy Councillor in 2000.
